Nufloors In Tonga

Nufloors in Tonga. A number of months ago I approach Darly with a bucket list. One of which was to sand and polyurethane a floor in the Pacific Islands. To my surprise one came up just over a month ago. By bad luck we missed out on it. But one week later we got a phone call from Knut Klavene in Tonga. Knut asked us if we could come to Tonga and sand and polyurethane 80 square meters of parquet flooring for an influential business man. Of course we were more than happy to oblige him.

Now Mr Knut Klavene is quite the business man himself being the owner of KCL Auckland and KCL Tonga. Klavenes Construction Ltd Tonga as many projects on the go and is well known for his project management of new and old Construction of commercial and residential property buildings and development projects. Including his Auckland business Klavenes Construction Auckland Ltd is doing work for the Mormon Temple in Hamilton. For your information I have supplied his website. So if you need anything done give him a call. http://www.klavenesconstruction.co.nz. Klavenes Construction can do any projects in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

So now you know about who we are contracted to we can now move to the job. So Knut organized to get our gear over to Tonga for us then having organized our flights and accommodation we were on our way to one of the last untouched Islands in the Pacific Ocean. Our gear arrived on site followed by a couple of tired travelers. Having arrived at the airport in Tonga one of Knuts trusty staff meet us at around 8.30pm Thursday 18th of June. Having been dropped off at the hotel we went for a drink before retiring for the night.

The next morning Knut meet us at the hotel for a short walk to the site. Having been shown around we then went to the container to collect the rest of our gear. As luck would have Knut wanted us to start on Saturday so Daryl and I went for a walk into town. We will talk about our fun stuff outside of work in a blog.

Saturday morning saw us back on site to do what we were in Tonga to do. floor sanding. So with a slight delay in getting power we were away. With Knuts staff having pulled up parquet flooring in some rooms that weren't needed any more and used to replace where there was walls taken away in other rooms meant that the floor required a bit more sanding to get it flat. Check out the pictures in our gallery.

So with lots of cutting with a 40 grit on our big machine we finally got it flat and clean ready for a 80 grit. Once this was completed we then trowel filled the whole floor ready for the final sanding process on Monday. The Tongan people are very religious and usually do not work on Sundays so as a treat Knut took us floor sanders out to an island for the day.

Monday morning saw us back on site to get the floor fine sanded and three coats of water based polyurethane on it. Tuesday morning was an early start for me the head floor sander. Going round and spot filling and fine sanding it ready to be vacuum cleaned and the final coat put on. Klavenes Construction Ltd Tonga sent us over to Tonga and in two and half days we had his floor completed.

Daryl and I then enjoy the rest of the week exploring the Island of Tonga. Please check out our gallery for the before and after photos of this job. Nufloors would like to thank Knut and his team from Klavenes Construction Ltd Tonga for looking after us and keeping us entertained we look forward to returning to Tonga for more work and catching up with new friends.
