Cork Flooring

Cork flooring is regarded as an environmentally-friendly and sustainable product. Cork flooring was once considered old fashioned, now it's making a comeback and for good reason. Cork Tiles are quiet, warm, resilient, and are a natural insulation to provide coolness in summer and warm in winter.

Because of its sponge like density Cork tiles provide a flooring option that allows for bounce and not smash when items are dropped on it. Dents generally bounce back and the cork tiles don't normally mark.

Cork is used for flooring, wine bottles and insulation is a natural product harvested for commercial use from the bark of the Cork Oak tree, The regeneration of natural forests is continuous as the harvesting of cork does not require the removal of trees, just the bark. The bark re-grows completely within around nine years when the cork is harvested again.

Cork flooring has a high level of naturally occurring suberin, which means it is highly water resistant, as the main function of suberin is to prevent water from penetrating the ‘tissue’. Its elasticity combined with its near water impermeability makes cork suitable as a material for bottle stoppers, insulation and as a Cork flooring product.

Cork flooring is a hard wearing floor for life and is considered to be a fantastic sustainable floor covering, that is good for our environment and it RENEWABLE. It can be resurfaced and re-sanded bringing life back to the Cork flooring after years of wear.

Cork flooring provides a fuss-free alternative to timber floors and is perfect for use in high traffic and wet areas.

Our Products

NUFLOORS has been supplying and installing cork flooring products in and around Auckland since 1988 and has knowledge and experience in the installation of cork flooring. We have a proud history of providing an exceptional product and service to our customers and we offer a full supply and installation service to take the hassle out of your cork flooring experience. Cork flooring is a beautiful natural flooring product.

Do you have an existing cork flooring and want to give it a new lease on life?

Re-sanding existing cork flooring

Re-sanding a cork floor will strip away all polyurethane and cut the floor back to the natural cork. It provides an ‘as new’ result once the floor is surfaced with three heavy coats of polyurethane to a selected finish of either Matt, Satin or Gloss upon your request.

Re-sand should be considered when:

The cork flooring has not been maintained.

Fire or water damage has occurred to your cork flooring.

Individual tiles need to be removed or replaced.

The cork flooring is peeling or flaking.

Once the existing cork flooring has been rough sanded to remove all polyurethane coating, the floor is then buffed carefully to ensure as smooth a finish as possible. The cork flooring is then finished with a hi-speed buff and three heavy coats of polyurethane are applied to restore it to its original state.

Customers should note that as with the installation of a new cork floor, this is a dusty procedure and we suggest that you read our customer reference sheet prior to installation or re-sanding.

Resurfacing cork tiles

A quick and easy way to bring your cork flooring back to life is by a resurface. When your floor starts to appear dull and lacks lustre, it’s time to consider resurfacing.

We recommend that all cork tile floors be resurfaced at intervals of approximately 4-6 years to keep their shine and to keep the floor looking ‘as new’.

After the cork flooring is cleaned with our approved solvent, it is then sanded lightly to ensure the new coat of polyurethane adheres to the surface.

As not all polyurethanes are compatible with each other, care is taken to ensure the surface is correctly prepared. However, there may be some trial and error in the process depending on other household products that have been applied to areas of the floor, such as ironing sprays etc.

If your cork floor is flaking or peeling, expert advice should be sought before going ahead so please give us a call.

Any application of products to the floor may have a detrimental effect on the resurfacing process. Unfortunatley in the event of this happening we can not predict exactly what type of chemical reaction may be seen as a result.

Acoustick-Mat 5mm underlay - 0.5m2 sheet

Staining and Colouring2016-05-10T10:46:50+00:002016-05-10T10:46:50+00:00http://www.nufloors.co.nz/floor-sanding-service/staining-and-colouringSuper User[email protected]
Staining Wooden Floors

Aside from the many choices of wooden flooring colours and the many fabulous sustainable alternatives to new hardwood floors, your colour choice is huge. Going light or dark with wood can create an entirely different vibe throughout your home, and determines what you're able to do with your space. For instance, you don't want dark walls with dark wood floors unless you are creating the untimate Bat Cave. And light wood with light colours may feel more cottage than you're wanting.
